Climate change failure inspires more members

EUA price jumps 25% but it is still a long way from all time highs
The price of emitting carbon dioxide increased by 25% in the European Emissions Trading Scheme between February and April this year.
As the price of EUAs (European Allowances) rises it becomes less and less financially attractive
for industry to emit carbon dioxide and more economically attractive to invest in low-carbon solutions.
A higher price per tonne is needed to speed up the transition to a low-carbon future.
While a 25% rise seems like a lot, we are not yet at previous highs. In fact, the current price is still 47% below the all time high of 29.33 Euros in July 2008. The price rise of EUAs means that the price of Climakind carbon emission credits has had to rise. However, we were able to keep the price rise below 25% because of the weaker Euro. See the price by currency at The Price of Carbon Emissions. Buying Climakind carbon emission credits today protects you from any increase in the price per tonne for the next 12 months. If you are a member login to your member lounge to Purchase More CO2. If you are not yet a member then you can register to start cancelling carbon emissions credits today.
Bassike joins Climakind - Fashion has an environmental conscience
Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan are the two very motivated and inspiring creators of Bassike clothing.
It was clear from our first meeting that both of them wanted to do continue to develop their sustainable
initiatives. They already use organic cotton and produce their clothing locally. But they knew there
was much more that they could do. Bassike has started the journey to develop a carbon management plan and
a goal to become carbon neutral. We look forward to working with them to achieve their goal!
Climate change failure in Australia inspires more people to be Climakind
Frustration levels rose for the majority of Australians with the news that the Australian Emissions
Trading Scheme would be delayed until at least 2013. This was confirmed by the Lowy Institute poll of
1000 people where almost three in every four people thought Australia should reduce
greenhouse gas emissions before a global deal was struck. Almost half said Australia should do so
even if that involved significant costs (Rudd confirms carbon scheme delay).
As a result more people and organisations have joined Climakind to show their concern for the future and to show their support for a scheme to encourage investment in low-carbon solutions. The greater the participation the greater the impact Climakind has to make a difference.
First individual Silver Member - still room to go for Gold!
April was witness to the first individual Siler Member, Taylormade G, who cancelled six tonnes of
carbon emission credits when joining. There is still the chance to be the first Individual Gold Member. Thanks to all the other individuals and organisations that
have participated in Climakind and shown their commitment to reduce global carbon emissions!
Showers and dishes may amount to 40% of your electricity bill!
Heating Water can be as much as 40% of your electricity bill, meaning it is a large part of your carbon footprint.
CERT 2 (Carbon Emission Reduction Tip 2) suggests reducing your hot water needs by making simple changes to your life style, such as
taking shorter showers and washing dishes in cold water.
More involved (but worthwhile) changes include reducing the temperature of the hot water tank, heating water only in off peak times (late at night), and changing to solar hot water. For more ideas see our EmissionsAware™ Tips and Information.
